The Newborn Photography Experience at Reflections Photography
Every mother’s experience with their newborn baby is unique. But my goal as a newborn family photographer is to capture your favourite parts of the newborn journey for your whole family. These are the memories I want to help you preserve so you can cherish them (both during the newborn stage of your life, and as your children grow up).
Family Spotlight:
Meet the Folinos! Parents Daniela and Patrick recently introduced their son Zachary to the world, and it was such an honour to capture their newborn family session. It feels like only yesterday I was swaddling their oldest daughter Zoe for her newborn shoot! Now she’s a big sister!
It’s always such a special privilege to watch my families grow up and preserve their memories through each new milestone.
What They Wore:
I am completely in love with Daniela’s dress – this flowy maxi dress in light sandstone brought a lovely warmth to their early-August photo session. With the oatmeal colour of the sofa and her childrens’ white outfits, it made a neutral colour scheme that will match their home’s interior design perfectly.
The Moments We Captured:
In a family newborn shoot, there are a few must-have shots that I like to tailor to each of my clients:
Family-together shots (either snuggling on the couch or playing on the floor)
Newborn swaddle photos
Tiny newborn features (toes, fingers, lips, etc.)
Sibling shots
One-on-one newborn photos with each parent
We’ll get lots of other variations too – and capture adorable candid moments as they happen – but these are a fantastic foundation to build off of.
(They’re always a winning combination for a newborn album or updating your gallery wall at home.)

What to Expect at a Family Newborn Session:
Before Your Photos:
We’ll connect in an introductory session where we’ll discuss everything I need to know to create the ideal photo session for you and your family! (ages, nap schedules, comfort level in front of the camera, etc.).
But remember this: you don’t have to stress about a thing – I’ll ask you all the questions I need to know to coordinate a photo session that suits your family’s needs, and from there, we just need to wait until Baby arrives!

When to Book Your Newborn Session:
Birth dates can be pretty unpredictable, so for most cases, I would recommend that you reach out as soon as Baby is born, and we’ll book your session for between 7 and 14 days after (this is when you can get that sweet, curled-up look for their photos). Babies grow and change so quickly which is why I recommend this time frame.
During Your Newborn Session:
I know that your whole world has changed these last few days. When you come into the studio, you’ll be greeted with a calming, restful atmosphere. I’ve taken every health and safety measure to make sure your baby and other children are safe and sound! Many of my clients love to bring their other children to their newborn sessions as well, which I am prepared for. Your older children will have a beautiful selection of wooden toys to play with and I am an expert at handling newborn babies, from swaddling, to soothing so you get the dreamiest photos!
Important Tip: Feed and burp Baby right before you come to your session – when this happens, many babies will slumber peacefully throughout the session, which can last between 1 and 2 hours. (But we’ll never push your baby past their limits! And if you have other young children, they’re welcome to play in the studio, or have a family member pick them up when they’re done with their photos.)

Your Newborn Photos:
Many customers choose a few new prints to update their walls, and they’ll create an heirloom newborn photo album to showcase their new photos. I want you to have swoon-worthy memories of this time in your family’s life so we’ll walk through the collection together at your Image Reveal, and I’ll do all the heavy lifting when it comes to album design and gallery wall installation.
And Mama, if the newborn stage has been a difficult one for you, it’s okay! I’m here with overflowing patience to help you connect with your family during our photo session. I’ll also deliver you photos that help you see the treasures of this stage more clearly.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed some days by the sleepless nights, the piles of laundry, and even how fast your baby is growing. But when you look up and see photos of your newborn baby’s smiles, sleeping eyes, and tiny toes – it reminds you of the miracle of it all. Don’t let the first weeks of your baby’s life slip by without capturing them in effortlessly beautiful newborn photos.
