Why Mom Needs to Be Part of One Year Portraits

If you look through my baby photography work, I hope you notice something.

Besides all the adorable babies I’m blessed to spend time with, I usually include mom, dad, and older children in each first year portrait session. It’s especially important to me that mom is part of the session and included in images with her child. This is something I would have loved as a young mom.

Mom, you deserve to be part of this experience. Documenting baby’s official first birthday portraits is the reason we’re here celebrating, but I want to celebrate you, too. You just survived taking care of your baby for a whole year. You’ve made it through sleepless nights, hundreds of diaper changes and feedings, endless baby snuggles, and being there for all your baby’s firsts, all while taking care of yourself and the rest of your family.

This is why I want you to be part of the session.

Here are five reasons why mom is part of the first year portrait sessions at Reflections Photography.

5 Reasons Mom is Part of the First Year Portrait Session

1. You Deserve to Be in Front of the Camera - It typically falls on mom to document baby’s special moments. You’re there for every first, every smile, and every cute thing they do. You’ve taken countless photos of your baby since the moment they were born. How many of those photos include you? You are your baby’s favourite person in the whole wide world, so we want you to be in front of the camera. Let me handle documenting their first year portraits.

2. Your Baby Will Treasure These - Do you have professional, high-quality photos of you and your mom from when you were little? How would it feel to have images like that? So, if you hesitate to be part of this session, remember that these portraits aren’t just for you. Your baby will treasure these photos with you.

3. Feel Supported and Pampered - One objection is that moms worry about how much work it’ll take them to get ready and prepared for the session. Our full-service photography process takes care of everything so that mom can relax and enjoy this experience. Each session includes wardrobe, hair and makeup, easygoing session day, and done-for-you portraits.

4. Family Focused Photography - Yes, we are here to celebrate your sweet baby turning one, but if the album only had images of your baby, we’d be missing something very important: the rest of the family. Our family-focused photography documents the entire story, so your baby can get a glimpse into what life was like when they turned one.

5. The Gift of Print - Digital files fail. iCloud passwords get lost. Phones break and get stolen. We don’t even know what technology will look like in 5, 10, 15+ years. In order to view files on a flash drive, you need an adaptor on new computers. Printed artwork is the only sure way to preserve these images and hold onto these memories with your baby.

I hope you’re able to share those digital files with your baby someday, but I know that you’ll be able to hand your baby their heirloom album with these images. That’s why it’s so important to me that you’re in these images.
