The Ultimate Guide to Newborn Photos in Niagara: When to Book + What to Expect

Those early newborn days are intense-you're learning everything on the fly, running on no sleep, and falling completely in love with this tiny human. It's a blur. But somewhere in there, you want to bottle it all up-and that's where newborn photos come in. As a Niagara newborn photographer, I’ve photographed hundreds of babies, and I can tell you: the earlier you plan, the easier it is on you later.

When to Book Your Niagara Newborn Session
The golden rule for newborn photography? Book as soon as you enter your second trimester. That might feel early, but here’s why it matters:
• Newborn photos are best taken when your baby is 5-14 days old, when they’re still super sleepy and settle into those curled-up poses
• Most newborn photographers (myself included) only take a limited number of babies per month to allow for early or late arrivals
• Booking early secures your spot and gives us time to plan-your due date holds your place, and we adjust once baby arrives
• Waiting until after birth often means missing that short window when babies are most flexible and content for photos
Getting it on the calendar early means one less thing to worry about when you're deep in the newborn haze.
What to Expect at Your Session
My studio is designed with new babies (and exhausted parents) in mind. It’s warm, quiet, and calm. Think soft lighting, gentle white noise, and no pressure. A typical session lasts 1.5-2 hours, but don’t worry, we’re not photographing the whole time. We pause for feeding, diaper changes, snuggles and soothing.
You get to relax while I do the work.

Do I Have to Be in the Photos?
Totally your call. While most families love having at least one or two photos with your baby in their arms, I’ve also done plenty of newborn sessions that focus just on your baby. We’ll chat about what feels right for you.
Props, Styling, and What to Bring
I’ve got you covered with:
• Soft wraps and blankets
• Headbands, hats, and simple accessories
• Natural, timeless backgrounds
You’re welcome to bring anything meaningful-an heirloom toy, a special swaddle, or even that handmade blanket from Grandma.

A Few Prep Tips
Before your session, here’s how to set yourself (and baby) up for success:
• Feed baby right before you arrive
• Dress them in something easy to take off (zippers over snaps)
• Pack extra milk or formula if needed
• Bring a pacifier if baby takes one
Most importantly, rest if you can. I’ll guide you through everything, so no need to stress.
Safety Is Non-Negotiable
Every pose is done safely, with your baby supported at all times. Many of the sweet, curled-up poses are actually created from multiple images and careful editing. Never try tricky poses at home. Always choose a photographer trained in newborn safety.

Ready to Book?
If you’re expecting, now’s the time to reach out. I’d love to walk you through the process and help you decide if a Full-service photo session is right for you. Book a call when you're ready to chat. I’ll take care of the rest.
