How To Choose A Maternity & Newborn Photographer

Step 1: Choose a professional photographer that you love

Choose a professional you're confident will capture the unique beauty that exists in your pregnancy. One that whenever you see their pictures show up on social media, you’re captivated and inspired.

Step 2: Think about what these photos will mean to you as you and your baby get older

The photos of my children are some of the most valuable things I have. They're snapshots of the different seasons we've experienced as a family. They stir up emotions in me from previous seasons of life. That is what makes them both valuable and priceless. And as my kids get older and they take over those photographs, I know they will hold the same value. My children won’t remember every moment. But through the photographs they'll see how incredibly loved and adored they were and are.

Step 3: Think about how you spend your money

There are a million things we spend money on. Between electronics and vacations, we spend thousands of dollars per year. Those things can be awesome and exciting, but it's a treasure to hold captured moments in your hands. Carrying your little one in your womb for nine months with anticipation and love. Holding your little one to your chest, those little details like their fingers and tiny toes. As our kids grow and begin walking, going to school, heading to college, getting married, etc, we can be confident we've captured those fleeting moments of their first couple years on the planet was treasured and kept.

Step 4: Remember your budget is flexible

Life can become expensive having a baby, especially if it's your first. There are many things that we spend money on that can be flexible or even unnecessary. But photography of your baby as a newborn will be one of your most valuable treasures. You will continue to look back on their portraits as they grow older. And as your children grow, they will value them even more.

The best professional photography captures the strong emotion and connectedness in that moment. The life of a newborn is one of the fastest growth periods of a child’s life. They are constantly changing, growing, and coming out with their beautiful personality. It's a treasured and powerful thing to have some of those first moments captured.

Professional photography is for people who see the value in memories and legacy. It is for those who want to invest that connectedness and love into your kids as they get older. We can actually begin to view it not as a gift but as something that we set aside in our budget because it is important.

Life cannot be held onto, time cannot be gripped. Through the power of photography though, we can capture otherwise fleeting moments and revisit them over and over.

About This Sweet Family

This is Edna and Jesse. They’re soon-to-be parents living their best life with Jesus. They’re best friends, and they’re going to be amazing parents.

Some of you may not know this, but when I was growing up, my natural parents were also foster parents. Edna was my foster-sister, and we’ve kept in touch over the years. I never dreamed that nearly 20 years later I’d be photographing her pregnancy journey. It’s so very special.

Edna & Jesse’s Photoshoot Experience

“Getting our maternity photos taken with Reflections of Life photography was an amazing experience.

The feeling of being so welcome into the studio was refreshing. Karen was very personable and made my wife and I feel comfortable by asking us what our expectations were for the photoshoot. By doing this we felt like we could really express ourselves.

The studio environment was super clean and inviting.

My wife was truly impressed by the extensive wardrobe choice and made her feel extra special.

During the photoshoot Karen was very encouraging, seamlessly guiding us through each pose while somehow capturing candid moments.

We both would one hundred percent recommend Karen for capturing your special family memories.” - Jesse Farr

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by parenthood?

Hi there, I'm Karen! I am obsessed with newborn baby yawns, giggling kids, and fancy flavoured tea. I'm a mama of four who understands the busyness of everyday life and I've learned how to embrace and enjoy the beauty of it through lifestyle photography. I know what it’s like to look back on my children’s first years and feel like they flew by so quickly. I don’t want any other mamas to forget what their baby’s little fingers and toes looked like all curled up. My hope is that I can help you create albums and prints to serve as physical reminders of these sweet times throughout your baby’s early years. Contact me for info.
