Baby’s First-Year Milestones: Cake Smash and Bubble Bath Fun

Turning one is a big deal. It’s the first of many milestones ahead, and it often sneaks up faster than you expect. First smiles, first teeth, first wobbly steps…then suddenly, you’re chasing a toddler.

That’s why I love first-year sessions. They give you a chance to slow down and celebrate before the baby phase slips away. And yes, cake is definitely involved.

A typical First-Year Milestone session in my Grimsby studio is simple, relaxed, and full of joy.

We Start with Family Photos

We always begin with classic family portraits. Most parents say this is the part they’re most looking forward to. Photos where everyone is actually in the frame. No tripod or timer needed.

This little one was all giggles, snuggles, and curiosity while mom and dad cuddled close. These are the images you’ll come back to again and again. The kind that remind you how much love carried you through the first year.

Then Comes the Cake Smash

After family time, we let the birthday star take the spotlight.

Every baby reacts differently. Some dive in face-first. Others start slow, gently poking at the frosting. Either way, it always leads to the sweetest expressions and so much personality.

For little ones with food allergies or sensitivities, we can use a wooden cake for photos. It looks just as cute and keeps things safe.

Finishing with a Splash

To wrap up, we head to the bubble bath. Babies usually love this part the most. It's a fun way to wash off the frosting and capture some of the happiest, most playful moments of the whole session.

Plus, you get to head home with a clean baby. Win-win.

Why Book a First-Year Session?

For the Tired Moms Reading This

You don’t have to look perfect. You don’t need to lose the baby weight. You just need to show up. Your baby already thinks you’re perfect, and that’s what shines through in these photos.
